In our video, Lester from dubplate.be explains how to quickly and accurately calibrate the tonearm of your turntable by adjusting the weight and anti-skating.
Importance of Tonearm Calibration
A properly calibrated tonearm ensures optimal sound reproduction and prevents excessive wear on both the stylus and vinyl records. Adjusting the correct weight and anti-skating is essential to prevent the stylus from exerting too much pressure on the record grooves or being pulled to one side.
Calibration Steps
- Balancing the Tonearm
Start by setting the tonearm in a floating position by adjusting the counterweight until the tonearm remains horizontal without moving up or down.
- Setting the Tracking Force
Once the tonearm is balanced, set the tracking force according to the cartridge specifications. Do this by turning the counterweight to the recommended weight.
- Adjusting the Anti-Skating
Adjust the anti-skating setting to match the set tracking force. This prevents the stylus from being pulled towards the center or the outer edge of the record during playback.
By following these steps, you can optimize the performance of your turntable and extend the lifespan of your vinyl collection.
